Funk

funk, groove kavramının üzerine kurulu bir müzik türüdür, bol slap'li bir heavy bass line, chicken scratch gitar ritmleri, aksak ve bol zil vurgulu davul beat'leri, sağlam horn aranjmanları, yine oldskool tarzda prophet veya obx synth'den çıkacak funky bir tını, sağlam perküsyon ve cowbell darbeleriyle bu kavram tamamlanır... herbie hancock ve james brown'ın çıkardıkları söylenir fakat the meters, tower of power, bar kays gibi gruplar funk'ı tanımlayan isimler olmuşlardır.. funk öyle tek başına bir müzik türü değildir, belirli türlere ayrılmıştır, o yüzden çoğu kişi iki parça horn kuplesi duydu diye:
''ehehe disco lan bunlar abimin gençliğinde dinledikleri şeyler iste..''
diye garip yorumlar yaparlar, özellikle 70'lerin sonunun funk müzikalitesi disco/pop izlenimi verir, evet doğrudur ama yine de hepsi disco/funk diye kategorize edilemez. funk kendi arasında dallara ayrılır:
